Now that the majority of the structure has been completed it will be time to fill in some of the thicker areas with foil, and then get the figure into position and mounted onto his stand.
Pumpkin King Wireframe Developed
After viewing many character concept images and figurines on the google machine (the image below is not my copyrighted image, kudos to the illustrator - whomever you are - the work is very nice)...
... I began to create the wireframe for the sculpted piece.
This is something rather new to me, but it seemed simple enough. Build a frame, pad the "skeleton" where necessary, etc. So, to get things started I began by developing the simple positioning of the figure's wireframe body and elements such as the torn fabric from the jacket he will be wearing, etc...

Pumpkin King Maquette Project
Hey boys and ghouls. Just in time for the Halloween season, I've begun working on a special project, one that might help refine my sculpting skills or challenge me a bit. I wanted to create a medium sized maquette, something that I thought be fun to create and allow me some artistic freedom also. The piece I've begin developing is based on Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas animated film, with a bit of my own twist to it.
It's been a bit of time since I've worked with polymer clay so I warmed up a bit with a similar smaller piece to get my gears turning. With some detailed sculpting and distressed paint I felt that I was ready to tackle something far more complex.
